Well, here we go again. It looks like the FBI is back to playing politics, and this time, it involves a second attempt on Donald Trump’s life. You’d think after the first try, they’d be on high alert. But when FBI Special Agent Jeffrey Veltri showed up at a press conference, it was hard to miss the irony. Here we have a man tasked with investigating an attempt on the life of the former president, yet, according to a whistleblower, he’s been one of the most vocal anti-Trump agents out there. I guess when the FBI is more worried about optics than actual justice, you end up with someone like Veltri at the helm.
So, Veltri stood before reporters, flanked by Palm Beach County Sheriff Ric Bradshaw, State Attorney Dave Aronberg, and a Secret Service spokesman, telling everyone how the FBI will fully support the investigation. His assurances fell flat, though. This is the same FBI agent who, according to a whistleblower reported by the media, had to scrub his anti-Trump social media posts before getting promoted to lead the Miami Field Office. I mean, can you make this up? The FBI apparently cared more about whether Veltri looked unbiased than whether he actually was.
Let’s not forget the details of this attempted assassination. A man allegedly hid in the bushes at Trump International Golf Club with an SKS-style rifle, aiming through the fence while Trump played golf. Luckily, a Secret Service agent spotted him, and the man fled before being caught by the Martin County Sheriff’s Office. You’d think this would have the full attention of the FBI. But Veltri, who’s been on the record as an anti-Trump guy, is now in charge? Sure, we can totally trust him to be fair, right?
Veltri’s anti-Trump bias wasn’t exactly a secret. The whistleblower said it was “well known” within the FBI, and it seems the higher-ups were more concerned about scrubbing his online footprint than addressing his blatant bias. FBI Director Christopher Wray and other top officials reportedly ordered Veltri to delete all his anti-Trump social media posts, trying to make him look “non-political.” Newsflash: you can delete tweets, but it doesn’t erase your bias. This is the same guy who, according to the whistleblower, led efforts to target so-called “right-wing radicals” within the FBI. Convenient, huh?
Of course, the FBI denies all of this. They told the media that allegations of political bias impacting decisions or Veltri’s social media posts are “demonstrably false.” Well, isn’t that convenient? The FBI, an agency with a long history of anti-Trump animus, wants us to believe they’re neutral. Sure, they were “neutral” when they decided not to charge Hillary Clinton for her email scandal in 2016. And they were just being “neutral” when they launched Crossfire Hurricane to spy on Trump’s campaign based on weak intel. Neutrality isn’t exactly their strong suit.
Remember Special Agent Peter Strzok? He’s the guy who called Trump a “f—ing idiot” in leaked texts with his lover, FBI lawyer Lisa Page. These two were in the middle of investigating Trump, yet they were openly rooting for Clinton and spewing hatred for Trump. But sure, let’s trust the FBI’s neutrality.
It doesn’t end there. Ahead of the 2020 election, FBI officials pressured social media companies to suppress the Hunter Biden laptop story. The damning revelations from that laptop could’ve swayed voters, but the FBI decided it was better to keep it hidden. This is the same agency that’s supposed to be investigating the attempt on Trump’s life? Forgive me if I don’t trust them to get to the bottom of this.
And speaking of Trump’s so-called crimes, last year the Department of Justice charged him with mishandling classified documents after the FBI raided his Mar-a-Lago home in a spectacle fit for a movie. State Attorney Dave Aronberg, who stood next to Veltri at the press conference, dragged Trump on MSNBC, saying the DOJ had Trump “dead to rights” in the classified documents case. Well, guess what? A judge tossed the case in July. Oops.
Let’s not forget the blatant bias within the FBI either. In the same month as Trump’s first assassination attempt, an FBI employee expressed disappointment on Facebook that Trump survived. They even posted a meme of the Grim Reaper missing Trump with the caption, “AWWW SO CLOSE.” This is the kind of professionalism we’ve come to expect from the FBI, apparently.
Luckily, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has a backbone. He announced that the state would conduct its own investigation into the most recent attempt on Trump’s life. DeSantis pointed out that the same agencies prosecuting Trump are now investigating the attempt on his life. Yeah, that doesn’t sound like a conflict of interest at all. DeSantis was right to call for an independent investigation because if we leave this in the FBI’s hands, we’ll probably never hear the full truth.
