Senator ‘Gold Bar Bob’ Menendez (D-NJ) is facing up to a 200-year prison sentence in October after he was found guilty of accepting bribes from Egypt and Qatar. Menendez may have managed to find a way to wiggle out of serving any jail time for his crimes, however. Reports from insiders close to the powerful Senator say that he agreed to suspend his campaign for reelection in exchange for a pardon from Joe Biden later this year.
Menendez was convicted on 16 felony counts in July. When his home was raided, investigators found a luxury car, $480,000 in cash, and gold bars that he had accepted as bribes. The Democrat Senator used his position on the powerful Senate Foreign Relations Committee to trade favors for the governments of Qatar and Egypt in exchange for bribes.
All told, Menendez took around $1 million in bribes from the two countries. If he deserves 200 years for that, doesn’t it mean that Joe and Jill Biden deserve 5,400 years in prison for the $27 million in bribes they took? Asking for a friend.
Anyway, Menendez refused to give up his Senate seat even after he was found guilty. He was running for reelection as an Independent since the Democrats finally kicked him out of their party after the verdict.
Insiders close to Menendez say his Senate seat was his last available bargaining chip before his upcoming sentencing. Menendez dropped out of the race on Tuesday. His friends say he managed to bargain his way into either a pardon or reduction of his sentence from Biden after the election.
The Swamp always takes care of its own, doesn’t it?
