Small business owners across America are grappling with a brutal egg price spike, driven by supply shortages and rising costs, but they’re not backing down, as President Donald Trump’s economic policies promise relief. On Monday, Breitbart highlighted the struggle: avian flu has decimated egg-laying hen flocks, slashing supply and sending prices soaring, per U.S. Department of Agriculture data. For conservatives, this is a wake-up call—proof Biden’s mismanagement left Main Street reeling, but Trump’s America First agenda is the fix.
Stephanie Maynard, co-owner of Ox Hollow Farm in Roxbury, Connecticut, faces skyrocketing demand but can’t keep up.
“We have 950 laying hens, with 300 more coming in March,” she told Breitbart. “Winter’s usually quiet, but now people are showing up at markets desperate for eggs. It’s tough to scale fast enough.”
Her farm’s beef, pork, poultry, eggs, and veggies are in high demand, but supply can’t match it. Liz Berman, sole proprietor of The Sleepy Baker in Natick, Massachusetts, isn’t faring better.
“Eggs, cocoa, butter—prices are through the roof,” she said. “It’s not just cost, it’s availability. I’m cutting recipes or raising prices, but it’s killing margins.”
The avian flu’s wiped out 126.5 million egg-laying hens since 2022, per USDA’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service, forcing culls that tighten supply and hike prices. States like California, with cage-free mandates, faced major outbreaks in 2024, per NerdWallet, leaving retailers like Trader Joe’s and Whole Foods scrambling.
Republicans see Biden’s green policies—pushing cage-free rules and neglecting rural producers—as the culprit. Trump’s already moving fast, with his January 20 “emergency price relief” memorandum targeting cost-of-living crises. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy’s slashing red tape at the FAA, and SBA head Kelly Loeffler’s Monday memo vows a “Made in America” push to boost small businesses.
Posts on X back the fight—one user wrote, “Egg prices up 50% under Biden—farmers need Trump’s energy dominance to fix this.” Another added, “Small biz owners like Maynard and Berman deserve relief, not regulation.”
Conservatives know this isn’t just eggs—it’s a symptom of Biden’s big-government mess. Trump’s team, with DOGE cutting $55 billion in waste, is unleashing American farmers and producers to meet demand. With Congress pushing reconciliation bills, the GOP’s ready to secure supply chains, lower costs, and let small businesses thrive—delivering the prosperity voters demanded in 2024.
