In a circus of egos, “Segregation Joe” Biden adamantly refuses to relinquish his seat, believing his legacy transcends the call for racial harmony. Amidst the raucous echoes of last month’s debate with former President Donald Trump over their dubious claims to champion Black employment, Biden’s stubborn resolve is a testament to his enduring political vanity.
Claiming to safeguard his so-called legacy, the career politician, affectionately dubbed “Sleepy Joe,” wages a curious war against the rise of Black female excellence. His recent maneuvers have included the unceremonious removal of at least one Black professional.
Just last week, Andrea Lawful-Sanders, a Philadelphia radio host, was forced to resign after inadvertently exposing the inner machinations of Biden’s media campaign. WURD Radio, her former employer, revealed she had reluctantly agreed to lob softball questions provided by the White House during an interview—a move that ignited controversy and condemnation from critics.
Despite painstaking efforts to choreograph the interview as smoothly as a Hollywood blockbuster, Biden’s inability to assuage concerns over his mental acuity remained glaringly evident. At one baffling juncture, he even proclaimed himself the “first Black woman to serve alongside a Black president” (Fact check: Biden is, in fact, a seasoned white male clutching onto power, acting as a sole barrier to America’s potential first Black female president).
Biden, aged 81, steadfastly insists he’s “the most qualified” to take on Trump in the upcoming election. Yet, his steadfast refusal to consider stepping aside and allowing Vice President Kamala Harris to take the helm as the Democratic nominee is as perplexing as it is unsettling. It implies a glaring skepticism towards the capabilities of a Black woman to fill his shoes, painting his initial selection of Harris as nothing more than a hollow nod towards diversity, bereft of genuine conviction.
The ire extends beyond Biden himself, reportedly incensing Dr. Jill Biden, Ed.D., over Harris’s pointed accusations of racism during a fiery 2020 primary debate. Harris had boldly critiqued Biden’s historical alliances with segregationist lawmakers to thwart federal school integration efforts—an episode that has left a lingering chill between the two women. Dr. Jill’s unabashed aspirations for glossy magazine covers and her husband’s engraved legacy seem to eclipse the broader imperatives of racial equality and societal unity. This unfortunate prioritization warrants closer scrutiny and reflection.
