When talking to anyone who pushes for gun control, you would expect to find someone who 1) knows what they are talking about and 2) has an experience that has led them to that knowledge. For Harvard graduate David Hogg, he just barely has one of those, as became clear when he recently spoke at a debate at the Dartmouth Political Union in New Hampshire.
As a survivor of the 2018 Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting in Parkland, Florida, Hogg certainly has a reason to not particularly like what firearms can do. However, that experience clearly hasn’t taught him any logic or even given him any real knowledge on the subject of guns in the hands of the American public.
This became evident when having a back-and-forth with another victim, this one from communist China’s Mao Zedong regime.
That victim is Lily Tang Williams, a 2024 congressional candidate for New Hampshire’s 2nd District. As Williams explained, she is an immigrant from China, “I was 23 when I fled tyranny.” As such, she saw the untold horrors of living under communist rule.
I am Lily Tang Williams. I was born in China to illiterate working-class parents, suffered under Mao’s Cultural Revolution and Communist dictatorship. I wanted freedom. America was my promised land.

“Under Mao, you know, 40 million were starving to death after he sold communism to them, and 20 million people died – murdered – during his Cultural Revolution.”
Williams’s concern then, as she spoke to Hogg about his views on gun control, was how could his proposed policies ensure that the US government would never become tyrannical, using the public’s lack of readily accessible firearms to their advantage.
“So my question to you, David, is that can you guarantee me, a gun owner tonight, our government in the US, in DC, will never, never become a tyrannical government?”
Naturally, Hogg could not promise this.
Willams then stated that “the debate on gun control is over.” Then, she even told Hogg he should “go to China to see how gun control works for the dictatorship of the CCP.”
Of course, Hogg tried to rationalize then, giving the usual mumbo jumbo about being sorry that Williams experienced the tragedy she did and even that he wasn’t trying to take her guns.
However, he believes there is a real “danger” in having “heavily armed” election deniers and people who aren’t happy with the nation’s current leadership, who might even suggest on occasion that those leaders be ousted.
Wait… How do you object to tyranny such as exists in the CCP and also deny citizens having a voice and being a “real danger” to his favorite leaders?
He’s just proved he doesn’t know a damn thing about what he’s talking about or the logic to back it up. What a hypocrite.
